Description Do you enjoy working outdoors? Do you have experience in traditional forestry or working on fire crews, and are interested in gaining some experience in the utility industry? ACRT Pacific is currently seeking full-time, energetic professionals to join our growing Fuels Reduction team. Our Consulting Utility Forester (CUF) positions are ideal for professionals with an educational background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, or environmental studies who are self-motivated and love a challenge. Our ideal candidate would be comfortable working independently in remote locations, harsh terrain, and all weather year-round. Candidates should be honest, trust-worthy, and dedicated to accomplishing the team’s production goals in a timely and efficient manner.
We have immediate positions available for our Fuels Reduction team in the greater San Joaquin Basin area, including Sonora, Angel’s Camp, Jackson, Mariposa, Oakhurst, Coarsegold, and Twain Hart.
ACRT Pacific’s Fuels Reduction teams assess vegetation around utility power lines to reduce fuel loads and ladders. In 2016 in California alone, 66 million trees died, representing a 100 percent increase in dead trees in the state from 2015. The need to reduce wild land fire fuel loads is greater than ever, and our foresters are paramount in this effort.
Depending upon your level of experience, we have positions available ranging from entry level to advanced.
Must be at least 21 years of age
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Biology or Environmental studies; Or currently enrolled in a Forestry/Environmental program preferred
Experience in Log Grading and Timber Cruising is preferred
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Valid driver's license and ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle
Flexibility for overnight travel is required
Inspect and evaluate trees and vegetation impacting high-voltage distribution and transmission lines.
Prescribe necessary removals for trees along utility Right of Ways (ROWs), based on stand density, fail potential, and public safety impact.
Coordinate access and customer issues with assigned tree crews.
Evaluate riparian areas to determine Class types in accordance with the Forest Practice Rules
Assist with submitting inspection results and professional recommendations to our clients.
Work independently outdoors, in rugged terrain, and inclement weather- including temperatures above 100 F, heavy rain, and snow. Terrain includes urban, heavily vegetated, hilly and mountainous, and swampy areas. We patrol everywhere power lines run.
Communicate inspection results with landowners, business owners, public officials, and utility stakeholders to facilitate timely completion of work.
Maintain ACRT’s culture of safety at all times.
Map reading and orienteering.
